Sandre
Stizostedion lucioperca
From the perch (Percidae) family,
comes our biggest and most economically important fish.
The Stizostedion genus has five
species, two of which are found in our ponds.
This fish lives throughout this
region in deep, sandy river beds and valley reservoirs.
We reproduce it semi-artificially
in ponds, while the greatest number of sandres live in the Danube and its basin.
At a young age, it feeds on plankton
and later on bigger water organisms. It reaches a maximum weight of 12
to 15 kg.
It is artificially added to carp-keeping
ponds to adjust the balance of less desireable fish. |
